Principal's Message

Greetings Reilly Families and Staff –

It is with great pride and enthusiasm that I write this letter of introduction to you as the newly appointed Principal of Phillip J. Reilly Elementary School. I look forward to working with all members of the school community to carry on the tradition of academic achievement and excellence, beginning with building strong relationships with parents, students, staff, and community partners.

Over the last seventeen years, I have worked in a variety of administrative positions in Capistrano Unified, including Program Specialist, Director of Special Education and most recently Executive Director, Special Education, Infant through Elementary programs. Prior to moving to Orange County I was a teacher for special education.  Over the years, I have had the pleasure of collaborating with General Education Teachers and Principals to ensure we build a growth mindset when educating all students. My academic background includes a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies and a Master’s Degree in Special Education. I hold a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, Specialist Instruction Teaching Credential and an Administrative Services Credential. I have two daughters whom attended CUSD schools; one is an Education Specialist for preschool in San Diego and the other one works with adults with disabilities.

Reilly is a phenomenal school with an outstanding character education program and high academic standards. The school is thriving because its teachers, support staff, families, and students are respected and valued. I believe that giving our students a safe and positive school culture with innovative solutions will keep them engaged in high levels of instructional learning. Children will flourish in an environment of “student centered” 21st Century skills, data driven instructional goals, and rigorous, engaging, differentiated lessons that are essential in preparing every student for post-secondary options.

Reilly has wonderful teachers that are focused on teaching and learning and supportive parents that are actively involved in facilitating a learning environment which ensures every student receives top-notch quality instruction. I look forward to working alongside the entire Reilly community and sharing that same focus!

As the Principal, my door is always open and I welcome your input. One of my goals is to build collaborative relationships with each of you during the upcoming school year.

Positive energy and positive people create positive results. -The Energy Bus

With warmest regards from your newest Reilly Patriot,

Sharla Pitzen
